Radiesse, formerly known as Radiance, is a semi-permanent dermal filler comprised of calcium hydro-xylapatite micro spheres suspended in an aqueous gel. Radiesse may be used to combat the obvious signs of aging, improving the appearance of nasolabial folds and marionette lines. It may also be used for facial shaping and contouring of the nose, jaw line and chin.
The results is a restored healthy and vital appearance. Potential candidates for Radiesse procedures include men and women who are in good health, have realistic expectations, and are looking to improve the appearance of facial lines, wrinkles or a loss of volume.
Radiesse injections are typically administered in a surgeon’s office and can take between fifteen and forty minutes to complete. Local anesthesia or a topical anesthetic may be used. During the procedure, a fine needle is used to inject the Radiesse beneath the skin. This results in an initial plumping of the skin during the first three months after injection, along with extended correction for up to one to two years as new tissue is regenerated.
Some swelling or redness can occur at the injection site after Radiesse treatment, though these side effects typically fade within one to two days. Any mild discomfort or tenderness that patients experience tends to clear up quickly. Recovery is minimal and most patients can resume work and other normal activities right away. Radiesse tends to provide longer lasting results than other fillers with results generally lasting up to one to two years.
