Restylane is a hyaluronic acid injectable which can be injected beneath the skin to restore volume and fullness and improve the appearance of facial wrinkles and folds. This dermal filler is commonly used to treat moderate to severe wrinkles around the nose and mouth. The result is a smoother, more youthful appearance to the skin. Potential candidates for Restylane treatment include men and women who are in good health, have realistic expectations, and are looking to improve the appearance of facial lines, wrinkles or a loss of volume.
Restylane injections are typically administered in a surgeon’s office and may take between fifteen and thirty minutes to complete. Local or topical anesthesia or a numbing agent may be used. During the procedure, a very fine needle is used to inject the Restylane into the skin in very small amounts.
Patients typically feel little discomfort and results can be seen right away.
Some swelling or redness can occur after treatment with Restylane, but these side effects typically fade within a week. Any discomfort that patients experience usually fades within a few days. Recovery is quick and patients are generally able to resume work and other normal activities right away. Patients will need to avoid exercise and alcohol for about six hours after treatment, and sunbathing and cold outdoor activities should be postponed until all of the redness and swelling have disappeared. While the duration of Restylane results will vary, results generally last for about six months.
