Rhinoplasty in
Washington, DC

The decision to undergo a rhinoplasty is a very personal one.  In my practice I love to hear the motivation behind my prospective patients for seeking to have rhinoplasty surgery. Some of these stories are quite powerful.  The stories vary depending upon the age of the patient who is considering rhinoplasty.  One of my favorite reasons is because the individual had never really been happy or comfortable with the appearance of their nose but they were too self conscious and concerned with what others would say if they had rhinoplasty surgery.  When they come to see me and share that they have come to the conclusion that it is their life and no longer are concerned with the opinion of others and simply want to do their rhinoplasty for themselves I am thrilled for them.  I realize that I am going to be able to participate in a small but meaningful part of their life’s journey and take this responsibility very seriously.  So what do people want to know about rhinoplasty?

The Facelift, also known as a Rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to raise sagging tissues of the jowls, jawline, and neck. The muscles and skin is tightened to restore a refreshed appearance in both men and women. While tissues of the face are still subject to the effects of aging and gravity, the results from a Rhytidectomy will be long lasting. The Facelift can provide a more refreshed appearance, including facial rejuvenation, though it is not meant to completely alter the looks.

frequently Asked Questions

What does a facial plastic surgeon do?

A facial plastic surgeon is trained and committed to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face and neck. Typically, a facial plastic surgeon completes a residency in head and neck surgery and then pursues extra years of training dedicated to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head and neck. Training to become a board certified facial plastic surgeon is about six years after completing residency. To obtain board certification in facial plastic surgery hundreds of cases need to be performed. Facial plastic surgeons are trained extensively in surgical procedures such as, rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, all face lift techniques, eyelid surgery, neck lift surgery, brow lift surgery, lip lift surgery, chin augmentation, and otoplasty. Non surgical treatments that facial plastic surgeons are also trained and well versed in due to their extensive knowledge of the anatomy of the face and neck are Botox and other neurotoxin injections, dermal filler injections, fat injections, laser skin treatments of the face and neck, non surgical rhinoplasty and chin augmentation. Each procedure is individualized to deliver a specific end result based on the particular needs of the patient and of course, if they are interested in surgical or nonsurgical interventions.

Dr. Schoenfeld has been in practice in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia area for twenty years. His approach to each patient is an individualized treatment plan designed to deliver a specific end result. He will guide you through each procedure and give you a detailed explanation of the benefits, limitations, risks and expectations for each procedure that he discusses with you. No two patients are alike and Dr. Schoenfeld will customize your treatment plan.

How much does facial plastic surgery cost?

The cost of facial plastic surgery procedures can vary quite a bit. The type of procedure that you elect to have performed would be the biggest determining factor in price. Cosmetic procedures can range anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. If the procedure is nonsurgical then this tends to be a bit less expensive than surgical procedures. Supplies for nonsurgical procedures can cost a lot if you are receiving several areas of injections or laser procedures. The experience of the surgeon, the reputation of the surgeon, and the part of the country where the surgeon is located also play a part in determining the price you will pay for any one particular facial plastic procedure.

Dr. Schoenfeld is completely transparent in his pricing. He will go over all prices prior to any surgical or nonsurgical procedure so that you are aware of what you will be spending and can plan accordingly. It’s important to note that health insurance won’t be helpful in cosmetic procedures, but that doesn’t mean you have to pay entirely out of pocket. We’re open to discussing payment plan options for each of our patients, and many people consider taking out personal loans for larger financial commitments.

What is the best age to have a facelift?

Any facial plastic surgery is a big commitment. Over the past several years the age at which a facelift is first being performed has trended to a younger age. There are several contributors to this phenomenon. One reason is that people are able to get good information in terms of what exactly a facelift entails. Many younger patients have been receiveing dermal fillers to their face for several years and at some point they have gotten what we refer to as “filler fatigue”. Their faces simply don’t look more refreshed with filler due to the fact that their skin and soft tissue has descended on top of the fact that they have lost facial volume. Filler and fat can replace volume, but only surgery will effectively lift the tissues of the face and neck.

Another reason why facelift surgery has been accepted for younger individuals is also the fact that the techniques which are used today have been refined so that the surgical result that the patient achieves is a more natural appearance of the face.

The most complete answer for when is the best time to have a facelift is really when you have signs of aging of the cheeks, jowls, and neck that are otherwise not responsive to noninvasive procedures and you are ready to move forward with the procedure. The age at which you elect to have facelift surgery will in part determine the particular kind of facelift that your surgeon will suggest to you. Not all facelifts are the same. I personally feel that facelifts should not be performed in patients younger than 40 years of age for several reasons. I also feel that the upper limit of what age to perform a facelift will depend on the patient's physical and emotional status at the time of their facelift request. In this case, age is really just a number and I have seen several 75 year olds who look and feel closer to someone in their 60’s and have done wonderfully following a facelift.

Your body is guaranteed to go through many physical changes over the years, and getting a facelift as a young adult may not offer much improvement. Most people seek out cosmetic features such as a facelift when they’re 40 or older. Although a facelift can offer a more youthful look, you should also consider the healing process that comes with it. The older you get, the longer it’ll take for your body to heal. Nevertheless, we’ll make sure you’re prepared to handle aftercare with ease and enjoy the final results.

How much does a rhinoplasty (nose job) cost?

You'll find that rhinoplasty in Washington D.C. has grown accustomed to is quite affordable compared to many other areas in the country.

As with any cosmetic surgery, health insurance won't be able to help cover the cost, but there are options available that allow you to pay it down over time. What does a rhinoplasty do?

The techniques involved in a rhinoplasty procedure focus on making adjustments to the overall shape of the nose. This surgery can include external and internal adjustments in hopes of improving aesthetics and breathing ability. Some people seek out rhinoplasty solely for cosmetic reasons, while others are dealing with a medical situation that could benefit from the surgery's end results.

The surgery can make adjustments to bone, skin, and cartilage, which allows surgeons to make a broad range of customizations to the aesthetics of the nose. Regardless of how much an adjustment is made to your nose, rhinoplasty is a convoluted process.

It requires thorough consultation to map out your procedure, and there’s plenty of aftercare to follow to ensure your nose heals properly. There are many do’s and don’ts involved with the procedure. However, it’s an extremely common procedure, and we deliver a rhinoplasty Washington D.C. citizens have come to trust. Renu by Dr. Schoenfeld has a track record that speaks for itself, and we have plenty of before and after photos that you can review.

At what age do people get neck lifts?

Considering the primary point of a neck lift is to offer a more youthful look to the neck and jawline, most people seek this procedure around 40 to 60 years old. This isn't to say that you can't have the procedure done at a younger age, but an older age range will bring the best results.

As we get older and our body continues to age naturally, most people notice a significant change in their face and neck. Most of this pertains to sagging, wrinkles, and folds in the skin. A neck lift can offer a significant enhancement in the youthfulness of your appearance.

To ensure you get the best results out of your procedure, it’s vital you work with a board-certified plastic surgeon in Washington, D.C. Not only should this give you a sense of comfort, but it also lets you know that the surgeon has the expertise you’re looking for. The last thing you want is a poorly done neck lift that needs revision work

How long does a blepharoplasty last?

This is a procedure that focuses on upper and lower eyelid surgery. Many patients are surprised that the results from this cosmetic procedure can last between 10 and 15 years. To benefit from these long-lasting results, you want to ensure that you only work with top plastic surgeons in Washington, D.C. However, by working with a skilled, board-certified surgeon, you can rest easy knowing that you’re safe, talented hands. Overall, the procedure focuses on the removal of extra skin, fat content, and puffiness below the lower eyelid.

How long does it take for chin liposuction to heal?

It may sound like a fairly invasive procedure, but healing from chin liposuction only takes around two weeks. A majority of any residual pain or swelling usually starts to subside around the two-week mark. Although this is a relatively short healing schedule, a lot of this comes down to the skillset of your surgeon. At Renu, we offer chin liposuction in Washington D.C. from Double board certified facial plastic surgery expert Dr. Philip S. Schoenfeld, M.D. We ensure our patients face as little downtime as possible.

It's also vital to follow all aftercare instructions so that your surgical site heals properly. Without doing so, you could potentially prolong the healing process. This will likely extend any discomfort you're dealing with and, in extreme circumstances, may require a follow-up appointment. Your surgeon will provide thorough aftercare instructions, so you'll be back to your normal activities in a few weeks.
