Are there different types of chin implants on the market? I will be undergoing chin augmentation surgery soon. Do any of these implants tend to shift with time so that more surgery is needed later?
Answer:
There are several different types of chin implants on the market. I prefer silastic implants as they are inert (the body will not reject them), safe, and stable in the location they are placed. If there should be a shift the implants can be repositioned relatively easily. The chin implant is generally stable in the location that it is placed. I keep the chin implant pocket small and suture the chin implant to the chin tissue to avoid shifting of the implant. Other materials used in the creation of chin implants are medpor and gortex.
