Question:
I am a 51-year-old woman in excellent physical condition. Would it be difficult to obtain a sufficient amount of fat for a facial fat transfer and will the removal of fat leave any markings on my body?
Answer:
I have performed fat transfer to the face on patients, such as you, who are in extremely good physical condition and have apparently no fat to harvest. In these individuals if fat cannot be found in the abdomen, then I harvest fat from the lateral thighs or the inner thighs. Sometimes there is less fat than I would like to obtain, but, the fat that I can transfer to the face makes a huge difference. To avoid divots, or grooves in the areas from where fat is harvested, you must remain conservative and make sure equal amounts of fat are harvested from the adjacent sites so the end result of fat harvesting leaves a smooth contour.
