I’m nervous about putting any foreign object in my body and was wondering what exactly a chin implant is made of.
Answer:
Chin implants are made of foreign material. The material that I favor in chin implants is silastic, which is hardened silicone. The silicone is inert, which means that the body does not recognize the chin implant as foreign and will not react to the implant in any adverse way. Infection and extrusion of the chin implant is rare and I have never heard of any systemic reaction from placement of a silicone implant into the chin.
