How long do I have to stay out of the sun after a facial peel

Posted by Dr. Schoenfeld

Question:
During my teen years/early 20’s I played sports, spent hours on the beach without sunscreen. Now I am a 40 year old male adult. I am a general contractor and spend the better part of my days outside. I want a facial peel to help soften my rugged look. My question is, how long do I have to stay out of the sun before I can return to my daily work routine?

Answer:
The time that you will need to stay out of the sun following a facial skin peel will depend upon the strength of the peel being performed and the type of peel that we choose to perform. A rule of thumb is that the stronger the chemical peel applied to the skin, the deeper the penetration of the peel, the more effective the peel will be on skin damage, thus, the longer the recovery period. Many of our lighter peels will lead to some redness for a day or two followed by some mile facial skin peeling. These chemical peels are usually performed as a series of peels 4-6 weeks apart. Strict instructions will be provided to you following your chemical peel and these instructions will include the use of a good sunscreen that Renu Med Spa and Plastic Surgery can provide to you. You will benefit from applying the sunscreen daily long after your facial skin has been rejuvenated from your chemical peel.
