Question:
I am a 61-year-old female and in the past 10 years I have developed a double chin. No matter how much I exercise or diet my chin remains in its unattractive state. Would a facelift correct this problem? How?
Answer:
If your concern is jsut the presence of a double chin it is possible that you can avoid a facelift all together. I am frequently able to address a double chin with submental liposuction and if necessary modification of the platysma muscle. Of course, the final facelift decision would depend upon what your chin area looked like during consultation. If only the submental area needed to be addressed then a small incision well hidden underneath your chin would be your only external incision. Fat would be removed from the superficial and deep layers of the area underneath your chin, and the muscle would be tightened as necessary to give you a smooth chin and neck contour. Recovery is quite rapid and very tolerable following this procedure.
