Question:
I’ve never used Botox before, but I’m thinking about it. A group of friends – we’re all in our 40s and early 50s – want to go to a local medi-spa for a little “girls day out” and I do have some lines that I wouldn’t mind smoothing out. However, I want to make sure that the facility we’re going to is reputable and meets whatever safety guidelines I should be concerned about. What should I know about the facility itself and the individuals administering the injections?
Answer:
The questions that you are asking about the safety of the “medi-spa” that you are receiving any of your medical treatments is a very good and timely one. If you are price shopping for Botox or injectable filler services, you are likely going to get what you pay for. If I was suggesting a place to my spouse or friend to get Botox, Restylane, or laser treatments the med spa would have to have a board certified physician running the establishment. I would make sure that their board certification was in a field where the majority of the training is spent on cosmetic and reconstructive procedures and not family practice or OB-GYN. I would also ask who is performing the injections in the establishment. You will likely pay a little more for the services, but, I am sure that you will find it well worth it.
