Question:
I have just read about a less invasive midface lift technique called a midface suspension. Could you tell me more about this and who would make a good candidate?
Answer:
Midface suspension is a proceedure that elevates the fat of the mid face through a small incision in the temple region, the malar region, or next to the corner of the eye. The suspension of the midface is performed with suture, barbed suture, or with an absorbable “ribbon” with small tines on the end. Midface suspension is effective, but, I prefer a midface lift which not only elevates the fat of the midface to a more youthful position on the cheek bone/malar area, but, also elevates the muscle of the midface, the corner of the mouth, and reduces the appearance of deep nasolabial lines even prior to fat or filler injection. The results from a midface lift will also last longer than any midface suspension technique. I think the best candidates for a midface suspension technique are those individuals who have sagging cheeks and enough fat that elevation will make a difference in their appearance.
