Question:
Why is it easier to fix problems related to an under-section rhinoplasty? Can overresection be fixed?
Answer:
Fixing problems from not removing too much cartilage from the nose is easier to fix for a variety of reasons. I am a big advocate for conservative approaches to nose jobs. Under operated noses are far more appealing than over operated noses and if the patient desires more surgery the surgery is generally relatively easy to perform as it will usually involve the removal of a nasal hump or reduction of the size of the nasal tip. An over resected nose requires numerous cartilageous grafts from either the nasal septum, the ear, and in more extreme cases, rib cartilage grafts in order to reconstruct the nose. The other problem is that the skin of the nose is usually tight in an over resected nose and needs to be stretched with the additional cartilagenous grafts in order to appropriately reconstruct the nose.
