Question:
Are there any factors that make someone not a good candidate for revision rhinoplasty?
Answer:
There are many factors which makes an individual a poor candidate for revision rhinoplasty. In my practice I see a great number of patients who are presenting for revision rhinoplasty. When I meet with these patients the first thing that I consider is whether or not I will be able to provide substantial improvement to their nose if we elect to move forward with the revision rhinoplasty. I am not concerned with my ability to change a nose or fix a nose, but, mostly what I am concerned with in revision rhinoplasty is whether or not the second or third surgery on the nose is going to be worth it. If the changes to the nose are going to be extremely slight I may not elect to perform the procedure. Setting realistic expectations with the patients is paramount in patient satisfaction. If I feel that the expectations of the patient are unrealistic then I will also elect not to perform revision rhinoplasty. The issues of scarring of the nose and severe nasal deformity actually makes me want to help the individual with their revision rhinoplasty and gross abnormalities of the nose rarely, if ever, would be a reason for me not to perform a revision surgery as I feel that these are the patients who need my skills the most.
