Question:
The right side of my nose looks much more swollen than the left side at 8 weeks post op. I had some slight asymmetry of my tip prior to surgery but now it looks even worse. Is this normal and will the swelling continue to fade so that my nose looks symmetrical? How long should this take?
Answer:
Asymmetry of the nose 8 weeks following your rhinoplasty is not something to get too concerned about just yet. My suggestion is to follow up with your rhinoplasty surgeon and discuss your concerns with them. It may be that more work was required to fix your nose on the side that was asymmetric to begin with and therefore, you can expect increase in swelling. Your rhinoplasty surgeon may elect to inject a steroid into your nose to help resolve some of the swelling. In the worse case scenario, there will be an asymmetry of your nose even after the swelling has subsided and your rhinoplasty surgeon should be prepared for that, too.
