Question:
I’ve heard some people complain about having wrinkling under the chin after a necklift. Why does this happen and how do you avoid it?
Answer:
I feel that the most important issue to address in a neck lift is realistic expectations and surgical invasiveness. There are simply those individuals who will not have perfect neck lines no matter how well the neck lift surgery is performed and it is likely that these individuals never really had perfect neck lines even in youth. I have also seen several different “neck lift” techniques described that use minimal incisions or threads. If an individual presents with a great deal of redundant neck skin, muscle, and submental fat, it is imperative that each of these issues is addressed to create a pleasant neck line with minimal wrinkling of the skin. Short cutting the procedure in order to get the patient back to work sooner or promise minimal downtime from the procedure will only short cut the necklift results.
