Question:
I’d like to get an eyelid lift and recently heard of a laser blepharoplasty procedure. What are the benefits of using the laser? Is this a good technique for everyone or are only certain people candidates?
Answer:
What you are asking about is a procedure called a laser blepharoplasty or laser eyelid lift. When lasers were first perfected as a an equivalent tool to a scalpel in the use of cosmetic surgery, there was a lot of interest in the use of lasers for blepharoplasty. The laser functions in the same manner as a traditional scalpel however, there were numerous claims that the laser blepharoplasty resulted in decrease in eyelid swelling and quicker healing times. Over time, we have come to see that although the laser is likely as good as a traditional surgical scalpel in blepharoplasty procedures, it is no better in the eventual outcome of the eyelid lift result. I have used lasers for a variety of other cosmetic procedures however, I have found no benefit in the use of lasers in blepharoplasty surgery.
