Question:
My eyes look older because the skin above the eyes hangs over, almost like another eyelid. If I get upper lid blepharoplasty now, will my eyelid skin continue to droop as I age? Do most cosmetic procedures need to be redone to make up for more aging?
Answer:
Your question related to upper lid blepharoplasty is actually a two part question. The changes that you have described to your upper lids are classic for an individual who would benefit tremendously with an upper lid blepharoplasty. It is a procedure that really does freshen your look immediately. As you get older, all skin will age. As the skin ages the skin will loosen. External factors such as, sun exposure, smoking, and alcohol may all contribute to the aging process. Whenever I perform a blepharoplasty or a facelift I tell my patients that these procedures will last about a decade. It is not quite like Cinderella where at the ten year mark you will all of a sudden start to sag and stretch, but, it is a gradual occurrence that you will notice starting in about ten years. Touch up procedures at about 12-15 years are common and less invasive than your original procedure.
