Question:
I’m a 38 year old man and I’ve gotten hair transplants in the past to fill in my male pattern baldness. I’ve got seriously hairy arms and hands, however, and I’d like to get these areas thinned out a little. I know that with hair transplants, each hair is individually put into place. Does laser hair removal involve the removal of one hair at a time, or a small patch all at once?
Answer:
Laser hair removal works by applying laser energy to your hair follicles in order to reduce the amount of hair that is currently growing in any particular area. The laser energy destroys the hair follicles to prevent re growth of the hair. Laser hair removal works best when the hair follicle is in its growth stage as the follicles are most susceptible to injury during this phase. The laser energy can be applied to large or small areas of hair and will depend upon the size of the tip the laser uses if very small areas of hair are being addressed. Single hair follicles are not usually treated individually by laser hair removal as is the case in hair transplantation.
