Question:
I’d like to get a necklift but I also have some awful age spots. Can I get a necklift and get some sort of procedure to improve the age spots at the same time?
Answer:
Aging of the skin of the face and neck takes place in many forms. Inevitably we all age. Patients with fair skin, a history of sun exposure, smoking, and other environmental exposures age some of us quicker than others. Signs of aging of the skin is laxity of the neck (excess skin) and discoloration of the skin (changes to the quality of the skin). Treating the neck with a necklift is a perfectly acceptable way to manage excess skin of the neck. Although excess skin and the quality of the skin on the face can be treated at the same time with a facelift and a chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing, the neck is a little more unforgiving. I would suggest having the necklift performed and facial age spots treated concurrently, however, any skin changes to the neck which need to be addressed, I would wait until you have healed from your necklift surgery.
