Question:
How do you avoid an overly taut or pulled look from a facelift?
Answer:
I think that the days of an overly tightened appearance from a facelift are now behind us. During the first few months following your facelift you may feel that your skin is exceptionally tight, and it may in fact also appear tight, but that will smooth out with time. The overly tightened appearance of a facelift mostly stems from the techniques that used to be used in order to perform a facelift. In the past, the lift of a facelift was obtained by tightening the skin. Newer facelifting techniques, which I employ in my practice, use the layers which are deep to the skin in order to lift the face and maintain the cheeks, jowls, and neck in a more youthful position. The skin of the face and neck is simply re draped over the deeper tissues of the face without much tension. The result is a naturally appearing face without the post facelift look.
