Question:
I am a 45 year old African American male that really needs a nose job. I havent seen many before and after rhinoplasty pictures for black men, and am concerned about the outcome. Are rhinoplasty procedures and results the same for African?
Answer:
Ethnic rhinoplasty for an African American male is somewhat different than rhinoplasty performed on Caucasian males. Generally, the African American male desires changes to the nose that include narrowing the tip, strengthening the bridge of the nose, defining the tip, and often times narrowing the nostrils. I tend to use a great deal of cartilage grafts harvested from the nasal septum when performing ethnic rhinoplasty in order to help better define the nose. The skin of an African American male also tends to be thicker than in Caucasian males and that needs to be taken into account when performing rhinoplasty. I tailor each rhinoplasty procedure to the needs of the individual and take into account the changes that the individual desires and strive to create this rhinoplasty result.
