Question:
I am a darker skinned person looking to have a scar removed from my arm. How much will my skin color affect scar revision procedures?
Answer:
Darker skin individuals pose a particular challenge in scar revision as the scar is often times either darker or lighter than the surrounding normal skin. I always approach scar revision surgery in any individual with the objective of making the surgical result considerably less noticeable than the scar that the patient is presenting with. Regardless of the skin color of the patient, if I can improve on the appearance of the scar they have, I will proceed with surgical correction of the scar.
