Question:
I am physically in great shape for a 58 year old woman but I find that aging has given me problems that diet and exercise dont seem to help. I have a fat neck and I would like the fat removed and the skin tightened. I am not interested in surgery and wonder if laser-assisted liposuction will work in this specific area. How long is the procedure? What should I expect in terms of bruising?
Answer:
The longer I practice plastic surgery the more I realize that heavy necks are dictated more by your genetics than your state of fitness or how heavy you are in other parts of your body. That is not say that if you are overweight you will not have a thick fatty neck, but, if you are thin and are predisposed genetically to a thick neck with loose skin it will be very difficult to improve your neck without some sort of intervention. Significant excess skin will require a surgical procedure to give you a well contoured neck line. Laser liposuction with the SlimLipo procedure is an excellent alternative to surgical correction of the neck and works best in those individuals who have substantial fat in their neck and a conservative amount of loose skin. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and will take a little under an hour. Your recovery is extremely tolerable and their is very little bruising associated with the procedure. You will have to wear a neck dressing to compress the area of your skin that was treated to give you the optimal result.
