Question:
I had a face and necklift recently and I initially like the results but I feel like my neck has since fallen. Why would this happen and what can be done to fix it?
Answer:
Aging skin of the neck is a common occurrence. The two factors that I feel affect the outcome of a facelift and/or necklift procedure are the amount of excess skin and the quality of the skin of the face and neck. Excess skin can be easily addressed with a facelift and necklift procedure. Unfortunately, the quality of the skin of the face and neck cannot be modified with surgery. Your initial facelift results likely looked good for some time because the tissue was still somewhat swollen. As the swelling from your surgery subsided, the skin became slightly more lax and you are noticing some loose skin. I would discuss this with your surgeon and they may propose laser treatments to your skin to tighten the area, but, in extreme cases, a small touch up procedure may be necessary.
