Question:
I have looked at the ingredients of several chemical peels and have noticed they all namely contain acidic proponents. I know that acids cause terrible burns so how can I know that the chemical peel won’t become a chemical burn nightmare?
Answer:
Chemical peels for the treatment of various facial issues such as skin discoloration, pre-cancerous lesions, fine lines, and deep lines and wrinkles do in fact contain some sort of acidic component. Not all chemical peels are the same. Not only are different acids used for different purposes, but, the concentration of acid that is in the peels will vary greatly. At Renu Med Spa and Plastic Surgery my aestheticians are extremely knowledgeable with regards to the use and benefits of properly applied chemical peels. Having said that, the concentration of chemical that I would use to treat deeper lines and wrinkles or that my nurse would use to treat pre cancerous lesions is quite different. Knowing which acid and the right concentration is the key to a successful treatment.
