Question:
I have two young children, ages 1 and 3, and for about the past three years I haven’t constant dark circles under my eyes. Is this something that will improve if I ever manage to get more sleep or can eyelid surgery fix this?
Answer:
Dark circles underneath the eyes can be caused by a variety of issues. Clearing these dark circles can be very difficult and is usually incomplete. At your age, eyelid surgery is likely not indicated for these dark circles and I would spend your time treating the skin with bleaching agents, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels. If there is a noticeable amount of excess fat of the lower eyelid then a lower lid blepharoplasty may be indicated in this particular situation to help deal with the dark circles.
