Question:
I’m a 39-year-old woman and I’m interested in a facial fat transfer, not just for the facial rejuvenation but for the removal of fat as well. Can as much fat as the patient wants (provided it’s safe) be removed from the donor site for a facial fat transfer, rather than just enough for the procedure?
Answer
I totally understand what you are asking with regards to facial liposuction and autologous fat transfer. When I address excess fat in the face for liposuction I remove as much fat as I feel is necessary to give you a good result. Concurrently, if I am injecting fat into the face for augmentation, I use as much fat as I feel is necessary to create a pleasing post fat injection appearance. I tend to prefer fat harvested from the hips or abdomen rather than from the face to re-inject into the face as I feel that I can better prepare the fat and harvest more of it for facial fat injections than if I was harvesting the fat from other areas of the face.
