Question:
I remember reading a while ago that laser hair removal worked best on light skin. Is the still true or have new lasers come out? I am African American and would like some facial hair removed permanently.
Answer:
The reason for the popularity of laser hair removal over the past several years is because of the significant improvements that have been made in the laser technology. The laser that we currently use at Renu Med Spa and Plastic Surgery is state of the art gold standard diode laser technology called the Soprano XL. Historically, although diode lasers have always been the gold standard for laser hair removal, the application of this laser energy was painful. The Soprano XL uses a patented application process that builds up the laser energy slowly which causes significantly less discomfort and reduces the risk of burns, the number one potential complication from hair removal lasers. The laser hair removal procedure is now extremely effective in most skin types, comfortable, and quick.
