Question:
I want to have chin augmentation surgery, but for some reason I worry about putting an implant into my body. What is a chin implant made of? Could I use fat grafting to reshape my chin instead of an implant?
Answer:
I can understand your concerns with putting foreign objects into your face in the case of chin augmentation. I use silicone chin implants for augmentation as I fee that they are reliable and predictable in their results and safe. Your questions with regards to fat injections to your chin is an excellent one. Although chin augmentation with the use of implants is my first choice, I have used and have been relatively pleased with the use of fat in the chin for augmentation. It gives a natural feel and the amount of fat placed can be altered to sculpt the shape of the chin. My only hesitation is that the longevity of the fat is somewhat suspect in the chin area and re injection and touch up procedures are likely going to be necessary.
