Question:
I am going for my second facelift next month. My first one was about 15 years ago. I think I would like to be awake for the surgery. Do you advise against this?
Answer:
Although facelifts are performed under local anesthesia, it can be somewhat of an unpleasant experience except in the right circumstances. Unless the facelift that you are planning on having is a mini facelift, a revision facelift can require some extensive dissection to perform the procedure correctly. If you would like to be awake during your revision facelift then I would suggest mild sedation along with local anesthesia. It is also known as twilight anesthesia and can provide a very good level of comfort during any facelift procedure.
