Question:
I’m looking to undergo some type of facelift procedure. There seem to be so many different type out there that I’m not sure which procedure would most benefit me. What I’m wondering, though, is what type of anesthesia is generally used for the facelift and if different types are used for different techniques?
Answer:
There are several different facelift techniques available. Although some surgeons are performing mini facelifts with only local anesthesia, I have found that IV sedation is a much more comfortable way to have a mini facelift. I will also use IV sedation with a full facelift but, if other procedures such as eyelid surgery, or a brow lift is combined with the facelift surgery which would prolong the surgical time, then a general anesthesia may be a more practical approach in order to protect the airway more efficiently.
