Question:
I’ve been researching otoplasty for my son and was surprised to see that recurrence of the problem is a possible complication. How would this happen and how common is it?
Answer:
One of the potential complications of otoplasty surgery is recurrence of prominent ears. I use a suture otoplasty technique. If one of the sutures should break then the ears could potentially return to a position that was not the position or appearance we had immediately post operatively. This is easily managed with a short surgical procedure and fortunately, it is not a particularly common complication of otoplasty.
