Chin implant done in the office or does it require anesthesia?

Question:
I am a 32 year female and would like a chin implant to enhance the contour of my face.  Is this procedure done in the office or is it a surgery that I will have to go under anesthesia for?

Answer:
Like all facial surgical procedures, the type of anesthesia which is used depends in large part on the preference of the patient.  I am an advocate for surgical procedures such as chin implants performed with IV sedation.  Although local anesthesia will make the procedure comfortable in terms of pain, I think that the amount of surgical work necessary to properly place a chin implant is best performed with the patient receiving some sedation.
