What my new cheeks will look like before I undergo surgery?

Question:
I am in my mid-40s and have been contemplating cheek implants. Is there a way to predict what my new cheeks will look like before I undergo surgery?

Answer:
There are two ways to help predict what your appearance will look like after your cheek implant surgery.  Computer imaging is a good way to get a relatively good idea of how your face will appear after placement of cheek implants.  More recently, however, I have suggested to my patients to try having me place dermal fillers such as Perlane, into their cheeks as an in office procedure to really get a sense of the appearance that we are going for.  I can comfortably sculpt your cheeks and alter the appearance to approximate how a permanent cheek implant would look in your face by injecting these dermal fillers in the amount that would look best for you.  The fillers will last a year or more and then you can decide if you are still interested in permanent cheek implants.
