Question:
What special care will I have to perform on my nose after my rhinoplasty? Will I need to clean it and how am I supposed to do this?
Answer:
Rhinoplasty surgery requires little post operative care. Following rhinoplasty surgery I instruct my patients to use saline nasal rinses to help clean the inside of the nose. I also have my patients apply an antibiotic ointment to any external incisions and to the inside of the nostrils where other incisions have been place. If your nose becomes congested with dry blood or mucous, a light cotton swab application of hydrogen peroxide can be gently applied to the inside of the nostril to help clean the nose. Ice applied to the side of the nose and above the eyes will help keep swelling to a minimum following the rhinoplasty. The important thing is to keep your activity to a minimum and follow the instruction sheets.
