Question:
Given all the less invasive alternatives to facelifts, like fillers and threadlifts, when is a traditional facelift the best option?
Answer:
There is really no substitute for a well performed facelift in the proper circumstances. Although facial fillers, mini facelifts, and threadlifts have a role in facial rejuvenation, if you have significant excess skin and muscle of the face, or gravity has adversely affected the position of your facial skin, fat, and muscles, a facelift is the best approach to remedying these problems all at once. Having said that, I do use autologous fat injections in many of my facelift patients. Not only is excess skin and muscle an issue, but, a lack of facial fullness has given them a thin and less youthful appearance that can only be corrected by providing the face with additional volume.
